Methodology

Velo Index is independently built and run by a single operator, and is operated from Ireland. The site exists because e-bike specifications are scattered across dozens of manufacturer sites, published in inconsistent units and formats, and difficult to compare directly. Velo Index collects those specifications into one standardised dataset so that models can be compared on the same terms.

Velo Index is not owned by, funded by, or commercially affiliated with any e-bike manufacturer, retailer or media group beyond the disclosed affiliate programmes described in the revenue section below.

• Velo Index aggregates publicly available specifications from verified brand websites and official product documentation.
• Each bike's listed data (including price, range, motor type, and weight) reflects the most recent information published by the manufacturer or authorized regional distributor.
• Where specifications differ by region (e.g., EU vs. US models), data is displayed accordingly. Where a manufacturer publishes conflicting figures across its regional sites, the regional figure is used for that region's listing rather than reconciled into a single value.
• All listings are reviewed manually to ensure formatting consistency and comparability.
• We do not alter or interpret manufacturer specifications, we only standardize terminology (e.g., converting units or harmonizing field names like “Motor Power” vs. “Motor”).
• Affiliate links are included for certain models but have no influence on inclusion, ranking, or display order.

Range figures on Velo Index are manufacturer claims, not Velo Index measurements. Velo Index does not conduct physical testing and does not present itself as a testing organisation.

Real-world range varies with rider weight, terrain, assist level, temperature, tyre pressure and wind, and manufacturer test conditions are rarely disclosed or standardised between brands. A claimed range figure is best read as the manufacturer's own optimistic estimate under favourable conditions.

Range figures are therefore comparable between models only as claims. That comparison is meaningful precisely because the same caveat applies to every entry in the dataset: every figure is what the manufacturer states, compiled on the same basis, so the numbers are consistent in what they are.

The same reading applies to two other headline figures. Claimed weight is the manufacturer's stated weight, which on some brands excludes the battery, rack or pedals. Top speed reflects regional regulation (25 km/h assisted in the EU and UK, 20 or 28 mph by class in the US) and is a compliance figure, not a performance figure.

Specifications and prices are re-checked in rolling review passes rather than on a fixed calendar.

Prices change frequently. The listed price reflects the manufacturer's published price at the last review and is subject to change. Always confirm the final price with the seller before purchasing.

If you spot a specification, price or other detail that appears inaccurate, email inquiries@theveloindex.com with the model name and the issue.

Reports are acknowledged within five working days. Confirmed corrections are applied in the next data review pass, and the “data last reviewed” date on this page updates when that pass is published.

Velo Index is built to be legible to AI systems and agents as well as human readers. Two sanctioned machine-readable access routes exist:

• llms.txt: a curated index of the site's tools, collections, articles and brand pages, maintained for AI crawlers and assistants.
• The Velo Index MCP server at /api/mcp: publicly available, read-only, and requiring no authentication. It exposes three tools for searching, retrieving and comparing model specifications. Setup instructions and examples are on the connect page.

Anyone quoting or surfacing Velo Index figures is asked to cite Velo Index by name and, where the surface permits, link to the source page. Attributed citation of individual figures and small extracts is welcome. The boundary between small attributed extracts and substantial extraction of the dataset is set out in the Terms of Use.
