EU E-Bikes Rated for 150 kg Riders Under €2,500

E-bikes with a manufacturer-stated total weight limit of 150 kg or more, for heavier riders and heavy everyday loads. This collection covers EU-available models priced under €2,500.

An e-bike's weight limit indicates the total load the frame, wheels, spokes, and brakes are designed to carry: rider, clothing, cargo, and accessories combined. Most standard e-bikes publish limits between 100 and 120 kg, which rules out a meaningful share of riders before the comparison even starts. Every model in this collection has a manufacturer-published limit of 150 kg or more stated in its specifications, and models without a published limit are excluded rather than guessed at.

Because every road-legal EU pedelec shares the same 250W nominal motor rating under EN15194, the spec sheet rewards closer reading here than in unrestricted markets. Torque output in Nm is what separates bikes that pull a heavier total load away from junctions cleanly from bikes that labour, and it varies widely within the shared power ceiling. Brake hardware matters next, since stopping distance grows with mass and hydraulic discs manage it with far less effort, followed by tyre width and wheel build. Range claims deserve recalculation too: a heavier total load draws more watt-hours per kilometre, so the battery's Wh figure is the honest comparison point.

Current segment overview

Across the 25 e-bikes in this collection, the median listed price is €1,199 and the median claimed range is 100 km, based on the Velo Index EU dataset as of July 2026.

The EU 150 kg-plus segment under €2,500 currently includes models from Cyrusher, Engwe, Duotts, Elops, Heybike, QREATE, ADO, Fiido, Tenways, and Momentum, with entry prices from €779 and Cyrusher, Engwe, and Duotts fielding the largest model counts. Hub motors dominate the segment with a small number of mid-drive options, and torque sensing appears on roughly six in ten qualifying models. Step-over and step-through commuter frames lead the segment, with fat tyre designs making up most of the remainder.

Methodology25 models

This collection includes EU-available e-bikes priced under €2,500 with a manufacturer-published total weight limit of 150 kg or more. Only models with a stated limit qualify; bikes whose manufacturers do not publish a weight limit are excluded rather than assumed. Results are sorted by price (lowest first). The weight limit covers the total load: rider, clothing, cargo, and accessories combined. All models comply with EU EAPC regulations (250W nominal motor, 25 km/h assist limit), so within that shared power ceiling the specs that matter most for heavier riders are motor torque in Nm, brake hardware, tyre width, and battery capacity in Wh, since a heavier total load consumes more energy per kilometre than manufacturer range claims assume.

To keep collections readable and fast to compare, this page displays up to 25 models. Results are shown in sorted order. No models are manually selected or excluded.

Questions about this segment

Does the weight limit include cargo and accessories?

Yes. The published figure is a total load limit covering the rider, clothing, anything carried in panniers or baskets, and fitted accessories, all combined. A 150 kg limit with a 120 kg rider leaves 30 kg of headroom for cargo and gear, not 150 kg of carrying capacity on top of the rider.

Racks carry their own separate, lower rating, typically around 25 kg on commuter models, which governs what can sit on the rack regardless of remaining total headroom. Planning with margin under both figures, rather than loading to the limit, keeps handling predictable and wear normal.

Is a 250W motor enough for a heavier rider?

The 250W figure is a nominal continuous rating required by EU pedelec rules, and compliant motors deliver higher peak output in practice, so the number itself says little about how a bike performs under load. The figure that does predict it is torque: within this collection, torque outputs vary widely, and a higher Nm rating is what moves a heavier total load away from a standstill and up gradients without strain.

Mid-drive motors, which work through the bike's gears, climb more effectively under load than hub motors at the same torque figure, though they are scarce in this bracket. For predominantly flat routes, a hub motor with a strong torque figure performs the job well; for hilly terrain, comparing Nm figures closely across the segment matters more than any other line on the spec sheet.

What happens if an e-bike is ridden over its weight limit?

Nothing fails instantly, but the consequences accumulate. Spokes loosen and break sooner, rims and tyres wear faster, brakes fade earlier on descents, and handling degrades, particularly under hard braking. Exceeding the limit can also void the frame warranty, since the limit forms part of the manufacturer's stated operating conditions.

Performance suffers before hardware does: acceleration, hill speed, and range all drop as total load rises past what the motor and battery were specified around. The practical guidance is to choose a bike whose limit clears your realistic loaded weight with margin, which is what this collection's 150 kg floor is for.
